Our History

Revivalist foundations
St Peter's was founded toward the end of the eighteenth-century evangelical revival - a great move of the Holy Spirit that transformed society in England over two generations.  At the time a great number of chapels sprang up to serve local communities and the mill owners of Loudwater paid for the building of St Peter's as a chapel to be a place of worship for the local workers.  Loudwater was described as a substantial village in the parish of Wycombe at that time.

Revivalist future?
The congregation has had ups and downs over two centuries and has been incorporated into the Church of England's parish system.  Nevertheless during the last generation and under the leadership of several succeeding vicars the church has gone back to its evangelical and revival roots and seen considerable blessing come in waves over several decades.
