What we believe

The basics

The Bible is the word of God, written down by men but inspired by his Holy Spirit.  So, we think it is important.   From the Bible we learn that:

  • God created mankind (hangups about evolution or literal creation are secondary) in his image.  We are "designed" to be in a relationship with God and nothing else will bring us lasting satisfaction.
  • We all choose to go our own independent way.  Seeking independence from God (what the Bible calls "sin") breaks our relationship with him.
  • God sent his only son, Jesus, to repair that relationship.  Jesus paid the ultimate price to do this (by his death on the cross, which is, by the way, an historical fact).
  • Acceptance of what Jesus did for each one of us personally (and no amount of good deeds or anything else) allows us back into a personal relationship with God that will last for ever.  Rejection of it or apathy towards it will leave us separated from God for ever. (ie we do believe in heaven and hell).
  • Jesus rose from the dead (for which we suggest there is good evidence) and his spirit (the Holy Spirit) is alive and with us today.
