Staff
Who might you find if you visit or call the church office? A sometimes irreverant outline of the most likely suspects follows!
A serious point within the flippant comments is that we all need to remember that Tim, Roz and all of the staff, cannot be available 24/7/365, which is why there is an answer phone and our care system for members is organised around small groups.
Tim Butlin - Vicar
Tim, Roz and family arrived at St Peter's in June 1991. After a career encompassing teaching and five years on staff with the Churches Ministry among Jewish People (CMJ), Tim was ordained in 1987 and spent four years as a curate at Eynsham and Cassington. He's the boss at St Peter's but clearly cannot deal personally with every enquiry and all issue that arise. That is why he has put a staff team in place and delegates responsibilities for certain things to his team.
Tim is still very much involved with CMJ and has served on its Board of Trustees for the last nine years.
Roz Butlin - Connections Leader, Admin Assistant, Vicar's Wife, etc, etc, etc
As well as dealing with the myriad tasks that are often dumped upon her she graciously undertakes as the Vicar's wife, Roz, in her own right, leads the ladies' Connections groups, helps to run the marriage course and works part time in the church office.
Marian Bartley - Parish Secretary
Marian joined the staff as Parish Secretary some three months after Tim, in 1991. Much has changed in the way of technology and the scope of the role since then but she still enjoys the challenges that working in a busy church office bring.
David Clarke - Treasurer
A registered Lay Reader, David has held many posts during his 40 years at the church, taking on the role of Treasurer in 1993. A mathematician by training, he deals with the ever increasing and at times arguably daft legislation covering church accounts with aplomb.
Heather Wildsmith - Assistant Treasurer
To quote Heather, herself, "Heather Wildsmith is the most wonderful person you may ever wish to meet. She supports the most 'trying' side in the Premiership much to the annoyance of the Vicar and Business Manager. She is in the office three days a week in which much time is spent chatting to the Treasurer about unimportant events and generally making a nuisance of herself." Anyone who supports Middlesbrough has to have a sense of humour!
Brian Hassell - Admin Assistant
Brian brings a wealth of practical experience to the staff team. Although health problems restrict the activities he can undertake, his knowledge of things mechanical and electrical is often invaluable, as is his sense of humour in the face of adversity, or Heather!
Ray Douglas - Business Manager
Ray started work at the church in January 2005 to look at the "business" activities of the church, the biggest of which was the building project. After several years, he is still adapting to life away from the cosseted culture of the software company of which he was finance director. As an accountant by training, all sense of humour was removed on qualification.
Andy is the newest member of staff who joined us on 22 October 2007 to lead the teams of volunteers who work with our young people. He is a graduate, in Applied Theology and Youth Work, of Moorlands College, whose experience includes running a prayer room in the heart of the clubbers' paradise of Ayia Napa. His hobbies include DJing, so this year's staff Christmas lunch may take on a new style!
We also have non-office based staff and contractors ...
Amanda Foster - Alpha Co-ordinator
Amanda runs the Alpha courses and is often the first contact from St Peter's for people who fill in a Welcome card or use the Contact us link. She has no known links to the secret security services so the lack of a photograph will hopefully be put right soon! With the arrival of Andy, she is no longer the youngest member of staff, although chivalry will prevent us from reminding her of this...very often!
Chris Hawkes - Community Projects Co-ordinator
Chris must be one of the best known characters in Loudwater! Whether engaged in his local business, community events or playing the drums in or out of church, he brings boundless energy and enthusiasm to all he does. Chris has been responsible for much of the work done to build bridges and break down barriers between the church and the village.
.... and there are also loads of people who run groups and do things behind and in front of the scenes. If you would like a job at St. Peter's, paid or unpaid (as the vast majority are!) contact us.
