EPIC
In Summer 2006 "'EPIC' decided to reconsider its monthly gatherings. Why? Because no incarnation is ever perfect. For the health of the species, individual manifestations sometimes need to be rethought, allowing proper evolution, preventing tired institutionalisation. As soon as something is birthed, it sets off on a journey - as yet we don't know the full future of this journey.
Sometimes we can end up expending more energy keeping the institution functioning than the mission accomplished. EPIC didn't want to go that way. So while it still felt good, while it still hadn't hurt anyone, before it became a real drag, we have gone into a period of reassessment. Things were beginning to move on: there was experimentation with a more laidback feel than you get on a Sunday morning; there was meditation,
contemplative worship and prayer; and lively discussion. Community was peeking out and some people were pretty regular and keen. However the planning team felt it was
a lot of work for the numbers attending. We really needed a critical mass of 30 to carry on - sometimes you just need a new vehicle.
Starting EPIC was a move from an ocean liner to a race-tuned single-hander: fast, exciting and pretty uncomfortable. You felt every wave, knew every weather pattern. You can't
race constantly. Some shore-time is good and that's what we're in. EPIC gatherings are an infection. You can't just stop it, you get the bug, and no matter how much you'd like to
relax back into 'normal' church life, you can't. The core members of EPIC are still very much in touch - dormant, maybe; dead, certainly not.
There are rumours of the possibility of some EPIC type gatherings happening sometime in the future (bigger, better, but less frequent) where all will be welcome no matter how old they are!!! So all can come and taste. We're all pretty sure that the same Spirit that started EPIC will doubtless breathe
life into a new iteration. We'll let you know when we perceive it...
